3 Things the Birkman can do for You
The Birkman Method® is a psychometric tool. Fancy word, eh?
Psychometric assessments are designed to measure one’s psychological characteristics. These could include personality, aptitude, preferences, and other cognitive traits.
There are many types of assessments. I am familiar with DISC, Myers-Briggs, 16PF, Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator, and so on. I’ve used (and still use) leadership assessments like the Leadership Practices Inventory and various others.
I draw from many assessment tools in my coaching, but my favourite tool is The Birkman Method®.
Birkman lets me do a deep dive with a client and sets us up for an effective and productive relationship.
Birkman will show you how your self and social perceptions will affect your performance and relationships. You’ll be able to see what everyone sees about your behaviour, and you’ll be able to see some preferences and expectations that no one sees (and maybe you don’t even see).
Birkman will help you uncover motivation, which, of course, affects behaviour. You will find out what “lights your fire” and “pumps your tires.”
Birkman will increase your emotional intelligence. All kinds of experts are telling us that the best leaders have high emotional intelligence. The problem is few us know what emotional intelligence is or how much of it we have.
When you complete your Birkman debrief, you will discover all kinds of helpful information. You’ll learn some of your strengths and explore some of your stressors. You’ll find out what incentivizes you, how you prefer to be treated, and how you tend to treat others. It’s a beautiful journey into self-awareness (and it’s quite painless).
Birkman is a great way to introduce you to yourself! I would love to help you and your organization, no matter where you are on your leadership journey. Reach out and let's talk about starting the process.
